The CAPS Curriculum
The National Senior Certificate (NSC) is a 3-year qualification and the curriculum therefore covers three school grades, commencing with Grade 10 and culminating in the final examination in Grade 12.
SACAI assesses all the subjects for Grade 10 to 12 as approved by the Minister of Basic Education.
The Curriculum and Assessment Policy Statements (CAPS) for the respective subjects serve as core for the SACAI curriculum in each subject.
The SACAI curriculum is characterised by an interpretation of the CAPS prescribed contents which aims to avoid offensive material in terms of any particular value system.
The SACAI curriculum includes a list of prescribed works for the language subjects that are carefully selected by representative panels of experts, again ensuring that works that could be offensive in terms of certain value systems are avoided.
